Rhada (Bass) Hall Currin Obituary

Rhada (Bass) Hall Currin, 98, formally of Warrenton, NC and Lake City, SC, passed away March 3, 2024.

Born January 12, 1926, in Momeyer, NC, she was the daughter of the late Walter Elijah Hall and Rhada Good Bass Hall.

Rhada lived a full rich life. Growing up in Louisburg, NC, she graduated from Mills High School and worked for the War Department near the shipyard in Norfolk while waiting for her husband’s return from service overseas.  Finally settling in Warrenton, NC, she worked alongside her husband supporting him in the tobacco warehouse business by keeping his books, which brought her to South Carolina as well.  In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Rhada was a championship golfer winning 9 titles and scoring 2 HOLES in 1.  She also was an avid bridge player, gardener, seamstress and cook. She was never idle as she was always at the desk, in the yard or garden, sewing to remake clothing for herself or someone else or doing handwork such as crocheting.  Rhada loved animals, scrabble, Talbots clothing, historical documentaries, and Duke basketball.  She was a smart, strong, accomplished woman and a good friend to many as well as a lifelong member of Lake City First Baptist Church.  Words cannot express how much she will be missed.

In addition to her parents, Rhada was preceded in death by her husband Bailey William Currin Jr., eldest sister, Juanita Hall Matthews, brother, Walter Hall and sister, Helen Cole.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay Currin Smith and her husband Zack of Murrells Inlet, SC; granddaughter, Laura Smith Brant and her husband Marshall of Summerville, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the untiring efforts of the doctors and nurses of Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, SC.

A private family graveside service will be at a later date at Lake City First Baptist Church, Lake City, SC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rhada’s name to your local animal shelter.
