Mr. Sarious “Nelson” Lyerly, 85, of Lake City, husband of Emma Jean Lyerly, passed away peacefully at his home on July 11, 2024. Mr. Lyerly was born in Florence County on September 9, 1938; son of the late Mr. Sarious Palmer “Pete” Lyerly and Mrs. Lula Mae Eaddy Lyerly. He was a lifelong servant of the Lord and was a member of Prospect Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as a deacon for many years before moving to Lake City. After moving to Lake City, he was a faithful member of Grace and Glory Ministries. He was a lifetime farmer. His love of the great outdoors never faded and he continued to be an avid fisherman and hunter for many years. His Buick was often seen parked at Pam’s Prospect Grocery where he enjoyed conversation, reminiscing on the good ole days, and Pam’s famous hot dogs. His faithfulness and close walk with the Lord was truly an inspiration to everyone who had the joy of spending time with him, especially his family. He was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and enjoyed every minute spent with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Emma Jean Lyerly; two daughters, Teresa (Bozie) Lane and Wanda Weber; four grandchildren, Lance (Sam) Lane, Shae (Hannah) Lane, Whitney Weber, and Emily (Devin) Thompson; three great-grandchildren, Lawson, Kate, and Blair. Nelson is survived by his sister, Betty Moore and sisters-in-law Dotty Lyerly and Armago Lyerly.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Jerry Lyerly, Carthen Lyerly and Legrand Lyerly.
The family would like to thank the staff of Amedisys Hospice, especially Dee Stegall and Tanya Smith for their excellent care and becoming part of our family.
