Sergeant Major William "Buddy" Cooper Obituary

Sergeant Major William Vander "Buddy" Cooper. 79, husband of Gertrude Haselden Cooper, died Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at MUSC Health of Florence.

Mr. Cooper was born on July 2, 1941 in Myrtle Beach, SC, son of the late Frisco Cooper and Fannie Marlowe Cooper. He was a Veteran of the South Carolina National Guard, where he retired as Sergeant Major.  Mr. Cooper was a member of Hanna's Chapel and was a member of the Mason Leo Lodge # 210.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Gertrude Haselden Cooper of Johnsonville; children, Dianne Cooper Morris of Florence and Melissa Cooper (Tony) McCutcheon of Johnsonville; grandchildren, Cole Morris of Columbus, OH and Hope McCutcheon of Johnsonville; step-grandchildren, Dwayne (Julie) McCutcheon, Anthony (Jodie) McCutcheon and Angel McCutcheon, all of Lake City; five step great grandchildren; and a sister, Fannie Bell (CW) Altman of Johnsonville.

Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by brother, Gary Cooper; and sister, Isco Timmons.

Graveside services with Military Honors, will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 23, 2021, at Eaddy-Ford Cemetery, Johnsonville.  

Memorials may be made to Hanna's Chapel, c/o Nina M. Altman, 354 Ballpark Road, Johnsonville, SC 29555.

Due to COVID-19, the family request for everyone to wear a mask and please maintain the 6 foot social distancing.  The family also request everyone to please refrain from hand shaking and hugging one another.
