Shirley Thornhill Brown Cooksey

Shirley Thornhill Brown Cooksey, 80, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Big Bend Hospice, Tallahassee, Florida.

Mrs. Cooksey was born on March 26, 1943, in Florence County, daughter of the late Hampton Wesley Thornhill and Freda Ethel Lee McClam Thornhill. She was a homemaker, loved taking care of people and never met a stranger. Mrs. Cooksey enjoyed painting, quilting, gardening & growing flowers, taking trips to the mountains & fishing. She loved to have her family together as often as possible.

Surviving are her sons, James “Jamie” Dallas (Nancy) Brown, Jr. of Cleveland, GA and Jeffery (Lisa) Brown of Scranton; granddaughters, Kristen (LeAnne) Lance of Flowery Branch, GA and Amber (Nick) Hughes of Cedartown, GA; grandson, Austin Brown of Scranton; great grandchildren, Alexis McDonald, Harley McDonald, both of Flowery Branch, GA, Aubrey Hughes and Weston Hughes, both of Cedartown, Ga; sister, Martha Jean Prosser of Pineville, SC; number of nieces and nephews.   

Mrs. Cooksey was preceded in death by her siblings, Larry Thornhill, Sonny Thornhill and Marie Luthrell; first husband and father of her children, James Dallas Brown; second husband, J.W. Cooksey.

A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of Jeffery and Lisa Brown.
