Mrs. Virginia Miles Powers Tyler, 90, of Coward, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Tyler was born on October 1, 1933, in Florence County, daughter of the late Luther and Minnie Miles. She was a member of Coward Pentecostal Holiness Church and she enjoyed the women’s auxiliary. She was a seamstress for over 25 years for Wentworth. Mrs. Tyler was very high spirited, strong willed, enjoyed gardening and working with her flowers. She loved traveling with her best friend, Mamie, to the mountains, shopping and bringing back quilts.
Surviving are her daughter, Joyce P. (Samuel) Singletary of Effingham; son-in-law, Walter V. “Binky” Grimsley of Coward; grandchildren, Timothy Vance Grimsley and Chris Grimsley; brother, William “Bubba” (Kat) Miles of Coward; sister, Peggy Miles of Scranton; great grandchildren, Jamie (Daniel) Pasker, Ashley Yarborough, Austin Grimsley, Bailey Grimsley, Matthew Grimsley and Michael Grimsley; great great grandchild, Emma Grimsley; best friend, Mamie Wilkes.
Mrs. Tyler was preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel Powers Grimsley; sons, Billy Laverne Powers and David Laverne Powers; grandsons, James Ricky Yarborough; first husband, Laverne Powers; sisters, Myrtie Bell Miles and Dalphine Collins.
Graveside services will be 4:00 PM, Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Hicks Cemetery, with visitation to follow.
