William Filyaw

Mr. William David Filyaw, 85, husband of Shirley T.  Filyaw, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Filyaw was born on May 2, 1940, in Williamsburg County, the son of the late William Dallas Filyaw and Mary Lee Sims Filyaw. He worked for many years as a dedicated truck driver for Thomlinson-McWhite until his retirement. A devoted man of faith, Mr. Filyaw was known as a gifted prayer warrior and a true servant of the Lord. He deeply loved his church and lived his life with purpose, striving always to follow God’s will. He was a loving husband, an awesome father, grandfather, great grandfather and a man who showed kindness to everyone he met. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and took great pride in working in his yard and watching westerns.

Surviving, is his wife of 64 years, Shirley Thomas Filyaw;  sons, Landy (Terri) Filyaw, Billy Filyaw, and Chris Filyaw; grandchildren, Landy Filyaw, Jr., Bryce (Brooke) Filyaw, Deacon Filyaw, and Dallas (Kay) Filyaw; great-grandchildren, Gage, Dalton, Harper, and Holden Filyaw (Jessica Chockley); brother, Edward Filyaw; sisters, Elizabeth (Ronald) Godwin and Pauline Nester; sister-in-law, Carolyn Filyaw; many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Filyaw was preceded in death by his siblings: Leroy Filyaw, Catherine Filyaw Parker, Betty Filyaw Richburg, and Rev. Dallas Junior Filyaw.

The family of Mr. William D. Filyaw would like to extend a very special “Thank You” to Pruitt Hospice for their love and care, and to the many friends and family, who were always there to support them.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Carolina Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel with Private burial to follow.
