Mr. William Thomas “Tom” Teal, 95, of Georgetown, husband of Frances Belt Jones, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Georgetown Hospital.
Mr. Teal was born on March 28, 1930, in Hendersonville, NC, son of the late Willie Clarence Teal and Jessie Mae Anderson Teal. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from October 1948 until 1952, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his service, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor, where he served as Military Police before being deployed to Korea. In Korea, he served as a machine gunner at the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir—one of the most intense and pivotal engagements of the Korean War. He endured severe conditions in combat, including shrapnel injuries and frostbite to his hands and feet. For his service, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, United Nations Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Citation, and the Purple Heart.
Following his honorable discharge, he began a long and dedicated career with Public Savings Insurance, where he worked from 1953 until his retirement in 1995. He retired as District Manager, having earned the respect of his colleagues and clients alike for his integrity and leadership.
Surviving are his wife, Frances B. Jones; sons, William T. “Jimmy” (Diane) Teal, Jr., and Glenn Teal; grandchildren, Lindsey (Tanner) Davis, Kelsey Teal, B.J. (Mary Ann) Armstrong and Kevin Armstrong; 4 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margie (John) Altman; and good friend, Russ Caswell.
Mr. Teal was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years and mother of his children, Lulu Jo Carraway Teal; daughter, Lynn Teal Armstrong; siblings, Lucille T. Infinger, James R. “Randy” Teal and Joseph F. “Joe” Teal.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Lake City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
