We are saddened to announce the passing of Mrs. Wyane Claudette Wilkes, age 92. Mrs. Wilkes passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center.
Mrs. Wilkes was born on February 26, 1933 in Andrews and was the daughter of the late James Frank Porter and Lily Mae Turner Porter.
Mrs. Wilkes dedicated many years of hard work to Coleman and remained active and independent well into her later years. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life—sewing, working crossword puzzles, tending to the flowers in her yard, and coloring. She was known for her strong-willed, outgoing nature and never hesitated to speak her mind. Her quick wit and fun-loving spirit made her a joy to be around.
Surviving is her son, Steve Gregg Wilkes; granddaughter, Kimberly (Craig) McLaughlin; great granddaughter, Kelsey (Kevin) Lane; great grandson, Robbie McLaughlin; brother, Oliver C. (Mag) Porter; sisters, Frankie Bridges, Emma Sharpe, Dale Welch and Viola (Jackie) Smothers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kathy Sharon Wilkes; sons, Sammy Wilkes, Kenneth Wilkes and Johnny Wilkes; brothers, Leroy Porter and J.F. Porter; sister, Mamie Waddell.
A private family viewing will be held to honor her memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your charity of choice.
